Walk Between Worlds (2017)

Reality as we perceive it is different for each of us; our personal lens shapes our experience and influences how we view the world and beyond.

As humans, we are conditioned to label and define all things. I believe that as soon as we do this, the magic of life is diluted and its potential restricted. Perception is an ever-evolving state in which layer upon layer will be revealed if we remain open. I’m inviting the viewer to fall inside these works, to engage in their dance and to ponder the illusions they create.

Walk Between Worlds, a collection of 10 pieces. ‘Beneath It All We Are Dancing’ contains 721 individual elements, each one hand-painted 7 times, resulting in more than 5000 coats of paint overall. ‘Hum’ includes 1600 components, all of which have been individually gold-leafed by hand. Meticulous processes such as these are an opportunity for meditative practice, calling for presence, focus, care and patience. It’s important to me to imbue each piece with these qualities, as I believe the energy and timbre of the creative process can be sensed in the completed work.
